Olfactive Description: Green, Floral, Fruity, Citrus

Petitgrain essential oil is a complex green and floral scent derived from the twigs and leaves of the bitter orange tree citrus aurantium amara. Sourced from Paraguay and France, it’s often used as a top or middle note in blends, but this complex essential oil smells divine on its own.

We recommend this essential oil for use in candles, wax melts, and tarts. It also makes upscale bar and liquid soap, scrubs, lotion, and perfume. Best yet, we found Petitgrain had excellent throw in our reed diffuser base.

Candle Maker’s Notes:
This essential oil is a top performer in soy wax, rating three leaves out of three on our soy performance scale. The green character we noticed out of the bottle carries through to the cold and hot throw.

Blends Well With: Bergamot, Clove Leaf, Lavender (Bulgarian), Cedarwood (Virginian), Orange (Sweet), Clary Sage

Fragrance Wheel Family: Citrus

Vibe Check: Calming, Mindful, Grounding

Suggested Colors: Green, Ivory, Light Green

We experienced slight acceleration and no separation. Initially, the oils and lye water was slow to reach an emulsion. We continued stick blending to a medium trace and noticed the batter was getting thicker than expected. As we poured into the mold the soap was continuing to thicken. We were able to tamp the mold on the counter a few times to allow the soap to settle into the mold and smooth the top. After 24 hours we observed the soap discolored to a yellowish brown and only reached the gel phase in the center. The scent was very strong. After 30 days the scent remained strong and the bars discolored to a light tan shade.

I got these EOs to make soaps and room sprays and so far, I've only used this to make a room spray blend with other EOs... and I specifically bought this EO so I can recreate an orange blossom aroma. Petitgrain is floral, woody, and citrusy, which I was expecting considering it is one of the notes in Orange Blossom FO.

This emulsified easily in my room spray base and isopropyl alcohol alongside with the rest of my EO blend. It came out so, so beautifully and the scent lingered for as long as my FO room sprays. I can't wait to use this in other projects.

Heavy dirt and leaves scent

464 wax, 5% EO. It does have a strong CT and HT, but the scent is...awful, offensive really. It reminds me of that bitter wood smell you get when you try to twist off a live tree branch mixed with decaying oranges. I wouldn't consider it floral at all, although I suspect it could smell better mixed with florals. Candlescience, suggestions for EO blends to cut the strong tree odor and create a softer green scent that is more fresh/floral/citrus?
