Petrichor Fragrance Oil
Choose a Variant

A hotly demanded fragrance, Petrichor fragrance oil captures something very unique. This fragrance evokes the atmospheric scent that follows a downpour of rain on dry earth after long, hot days. City dwellers might think of it as concentrated ozone meets asphalt, but heavier on earth than asphalt.

We don’t want to fool you, this scent smells a lot like a freshly dug up garden out of the bottle (OOB). This scent will be loved as both a standalone scent and as a versatile blender. Much like how Fireside pairs with woodsy or fruity scents, Petrichor blends well with florals, garden scents, and musks. This scent reaches peak performance in candles, wax melts, and tarts.

If you’re seeking a floral retelling of rain, this scent is not it; however, we suggest trying Rain Water instead.

This fragrance is infused with essential oils, including patchouli, cypress, galbanum, and vetiver.

Blends well with: Moonflower Nectar, Sea Mist, Tomato Leaf, Oakmoss and Amber, Rain Water, Cucumber Water and Melon

Alternative branding ideas: After the Rain, First Rain, Rain Storm, Earth

Suggested colors: Light Gray, Light Blue

True to description, visualize a damp mineral rich cave

“evokes the atmospheric scent that follows a downpour of rain on ”
Yes
“concentrated ozone meets asphalt, but heavier on earth”
Yes
“smells a lot like a freshly dug up garden out of the bottle (OOB). This scent will be loved as both a standalone scent and as a versatile blender.”
Yes and yes

In terms of essential oils, I smell the galbanum the most.

“Top-Marine, Green Floral, Cucumber”
Yes

“Middle- Earth”
Yes but not heavy or dirty earth, more like clean mineral earth or grey cave

“Base- Patchouli, Moss”
I don’t smell any patchouli but I don’t doubt that it adds depth to the composition. If you “don’t like patchouli” don’t worry, this is not patchouli heavy imo. Moss scent is very light, I wish it was more pronounced but it’s still great otherwise.

5-Star to the 10th power.... WOWZERS!

I can see how this is a love-or-hate fragrance. This scent is unique and is the type that you can nearly "taste" with a tiny whiff. For me, it is EARTH... or wet earth. Reminds me of walking through a wet forest in Germany. During Covid, I had the privilege of getting stuck in Germany and they were very strict about their Covid rules: 1 hour of exercise was allowed each day, outdoors. Otherwise, we were under curfew and could only leave for essential activities. So, for our sanity, my teenage children and I would walk, rain or shine, every single day. Walk outside in the forest that surrounded their village, and walk to the grocery stores... daily. And, much like our very own Pacific Northwest, it rained often. I would often think to myself how the earth had a different scent there, especially when wet. The rain seems to bring it to life... musty...wet earth. That is this scent. Wet, old, earth. - also reminds me of damp potting soil... and I am pretty sure the Halloween attraction that buries you alive, uses this scent to replicate that. I mixed it with wild honeysuckle and next time I will do 80% wild honeysuckle and 20% petrichor... it kind of takes over the scent mixed with equal parts. It has an awesome CT & HT and I can see keeping it around for a fun Halloween candle and as a mixer. Awesome job Candle Science!!!

It takes me right back to when I was a kid playing outside with my friends during a rain storm. This scent makes me immediately Happy. It's so spot on I can't believe it. Thank you Cs , you knocked it out of the park for sure.

Great for blends

I love petrichor in real life, and this is definitely captured in the bottle. It's a bit strong though, I'd recommend blending it, and probably with something lightly floral. I initially blended with leather but once cured it just heightened the sharper notes of the petrichor and gave me a headache when burning. I recently tried a blend with wild honeysuckle and it's incredible! More of a true petrichor scent but soft enough to not offend those who aren't the biggest fan of the smell. This is a unique one but I recommend giving it a shot!
